New Hiking Trail - Juliana Trail
The beauty of the Julian Alps surpasses even the most famous peaks of the Alpine region, which stretches across eight Central and Southern European countries. Hiking across the Julian peaks and gazing out from them into the distance—all the way from the sea to the Dolomites and the main Alpine ridge—is certainly an unforgettable experience. But for another equally incredible experience, you don’t need to hike the sharp peaks of two-thousand-meter mountains, nor do you need to be an expert mountaineer. Perhaps you’re afraid of heights, but you’d still like to admire the white limestone mountains that rose from the primeval sea above our fields.
This incredible experience is a journey through the valleys of this beautiful mountain range, featuring the charming Jalovec, the majestic Škrlatica, and the towering Triglav. Our most beautiful rivers will accompany you through the valleys. Along the Sava Dolinka, Sava Bohinjka, Bača, Soča, Jezernica, and Idrijca, you’ll never get too hot, and the occasional climbs will be easier to tackle when you cool off in the crystal-clear waters on the descent. Along the way, the mountain ridges will reflect off the many sparkling lakes, creating inspiring, photogenic moments you’ll never forget.
But the trail doesn’t stop at natural wonders; it also reminds us of the region’s rich history. The area is steeped in incredible stories that you’ll discover in the many museums and monuments along the way—ranging from ironworking, alpine dairy farming, and trade to, last but not least, the event that most profoundly shaped these lands: World War I.
Two full stages of this circular hiking trail pass through Bohinj, along with one half-stage, where we meet our colleagues from the coast at the Baško Saddle. Below are some technical details about the trail itself, and we invite you to visit Bohinj and the Julian Alps and hike at least one stage. We promise it will be an unforgettable experience. If nothing else, we always know how to deliver some weather surprises in these parts.
The Hostel pod Voglom is located just under a kilometer along the trail, right in the middle of the Bohinj section of the route, making it an ideal starting point. Our receptionists and guides will provide you with all the necessary information so that you can have as much fun and learn as much as possible along the way, and so that your hike is safe. If the weather turns bad, we’ll even come and pick you up.
